HOUSEKEEPER/PHILANTROPIST'S PET PROJECT WINS FIRST PLACE AT HOLLYWOOD BOOK FESTIVAL
CHANDLER, AZ – Clara Meets Mr. Twiddles: The Magical Adventures of Clara the Cleaning Lady, the delightful story of a cleaning lady with very special powers and her new friend, a cranky, territorial cat, won first place in the children’s book category at the 2009 Hollywood Book Festival.
While receiving the top award in such a prestigious contest is exciting to the book’s author, Lynette Murray-Gibson, she is equally enthused about the income it will generate for her charitable foundation, which supports education and literacy programs in her birthplace of Liberia and is the beneficiary of the book’s sales.
“The money generated by book sales will help build schools and clinics around the rural areas of Liberia, an area that has been extremely impoverished by an 18-year war,” explains Murray-Gibson. My goal is for children to able to attend the schools free of charge.”
In its review, Midwest Book Review describes Clara Meets Mr. Twiddles as a “wonderfully imaginative” book with “beautiful full-color illustrations,” and adds that “quite a significant amount of assumptions about space, identity, prejudice, powers and integrity are skillfully challenged and explored in Clara Meets Mr. Twiddles."
